Importing a vehicle

Purchased the vehicle of your dreams, but not in Belgium? You will have to import the vehicle into Belgium in order to register it in your name. You can do this via the electronic application E705, or via the customs branch office of your choice in order to obtain your E705.
  • An E705 is a free electronic signal that allows the DIV (the Vehicle Registration Service of the FPS Mobility and Transport), at the moment a number plate is applied for, to check whether the vehicle is allowed on Belgian territory. The self-adhesive vignette 705 has been replaced by an electronic signal 'E-705' (from Customs to DIV).

Persons liable to VAT are obliged to submit their application in order to obtain the E705 via the E705 application, whereas private individuals are allowed to do so. You can submit your application in one of the three national languages (French, Dutch or German). The application will then be processed in accordance with the laws on the use of languages in administrative matters. We have a legal deadline of 120 days to process your application. If the decision is unfavourable, the relevant customs office will contact you again.

  • What customs formalities do you need to complete to register it in your name?

As soon as you bring the vehicle into Belgium, you must declare it to customs. This is possible via the E705 application accessible via My Minfin--> My Taxation. You can also declare the vehicle to the customs branch office of your choice.

Please note: This does not apply to a vehicle that you bring into Belgium because you are moving.
