  • Interest rates

Deposits held for at least one year at the Deposit and Consignment Office earn interest. Currently the Deposit and Consignment Office’s interest rate is set at 2,30%.

This rate is examined each month, on the basis of the daily yield of the public loans (OLO). It can reach a maximum rate of 2.5%. This interest is subject to the withholding tax on movable property and is only capitalised for rental guarantees.

Interest is calculated as from the first day of the month following your deposit investment at the Deposit and Consignment Office till the last day of the month preceding its refund.

New regulation on the interest of certain assets as of March 2026

Starting in March 2026¹, the interest rate for dormant assets and for assets belonging to missing or deceased beneficiaries will be set at 0%. This legal change has no impact on the interest earned on your deposit account.

Why an interest rate of 0%?
    • Most of these assets are never claimed
Many people never claim their assets. After a certain legal period, these amounts are automatically transferred to the Belgian Treasury.

    • Managing these assets generates costs for the State
The safeguarding and management of these assets come at a cost. When no action is taken by the rightful beneficiaries, it is not justified to continue accruing interest.

    • A simple and fair solution
Applying an interest rate of 0% is a clear and simple solution that takes into account the costs as well as the very limited use of these assets.

    • Payment of interest

Each 1st January, for the funds invested for at least a year, interest accumulated is credited on your file. You can consult them or request a refund at any moment.

When you request a partial refund for one of your files, the LIFO (Last In, First Out) principle is applied. This means that the amount you withdraw is deducted first from the last deposit you made.
